WILMINGTON, Del. – The No. 73 University of Delaware women's tennis team cruised to its fourth sweep of the season with a 7-0 victory over Hofstra on Friday afternoon at the Delcastle Tennis Center. With the win, the Blue Hens won their third-straight match to improve to 9-2 on the season and 1-0 in CAA play.
"Today was a fun day for the program and it's always exciting when both teams are competing at the same time," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "Our doubles looked fantastic today with both teams and we immediately carried that momentum to our singles. It was a total team effort today from one through six and we will continue using this confidence as we prepare for Georgetown on Sunday."
The Blue Hens easily moved past the Pride in doubles as Eliza Askarova and Julieta Honrubia won 6-2 at the No. 2 position and Isabella Montana and Viva Laas cruised to a 6-1 victory at No. 3 to take the doubles point.
UD continued to dominate in singles play, winning all six matches without dropping a set. Askarova picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1, while Alina Vasilenko moved past her opponent at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0. Honrubia lost just one point in her match at No. 3, winning easily by a 6-1, 6-0 score, while Montana did not have much trouble in a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4.
Dominika Sujova won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 while Maria Constantinou picked up her first collegiate singles victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6.
