Pascal Wagemaker Named CAA Player of the Week

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's tennis graduate student Pascal Wagemaker has been named the CAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. The award recognizes Wagemaker's performances during UD's three matches this past weekend.
In a grueling weekend that saw the Blue Hens play three matches in three days, Wagemaker compiled a 3-0 record at the top two singles spots to help Delaware go 2-1. Playing at the No. 2 slot, the Zuid-Scharwoude, Netherlands native defeated his Hofstra opponent 7-6, 6-4 as UD topped the Pride 6-1 in the squad's CAA opener. Wagemaker then battled past Yale's Cody Lin, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 to pick up Delaware's lone point in a 4-1 setback on Saturday in New Haven, Conn. He then moved up to the No. 1 position against Georgetown and beat Kieran Foster, 6-3, 6-4, as UD got past the Hoyas, 4-3. Wagemaker also partnered with Guilherme Valdoleiros to win the clinching match to give the Blue Hens the doubles point against Georgetown.
This is Wagemaker's second CAA weekly honor of the season as he was named to the CAA Doubles Team of the Week with James Wilkinson on February 9.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action on Thursday when the squad travels to Temple for a 10:30 a.m. match.
