Blue Hens Conclude Undefeated Trip with 7-0 Sweep at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Delaware men's tennis team wrapped up an undefeated Spring Break trip to South Carolina on Wednesday, defeating The Citadel 7-0. With the win, the Blue Hens have now won four-straight matches and move to 9-8 on the season.
"This was a great way to finish our Spring Break trip and we are definitely playing with momentum and confidence," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "Our guys are believing in themselves and it's fun to watch them reach for this next level. We will take a couple of days of rest and we will prepare for Saint Joseph's next week."
The Blue Hens quickly wrapped up the doubles point, registering 6-1 victories at both the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Alexandre Gluck and Guilherme Valdoleiros got things started with a victory at No. 3 before Luis Molina and Liam Hedlund clinched the point at No. 2. The duo of James Wilkinson and Pierce Gilheany capped things off with a 7-6 win at No. 1.
Wilkinson kept things rolling into singles as he easily dispatched his opponent at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Hedlund also had little trouble at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-3. Tobias Sonne clinched the overall match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6.
Valdoleiros took down his opponent at No. 5 by a 6-2, 6-0 score and Luis Molina also enjoyed an easy victory at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Gluck had to go three sets at No. 3, but eventually completed the team sweep with a 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 win.
The Blue Hens will have the weekend off before making the short trip to Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, April 6 for a 2:30 p.m. match in Philadelphia.
