Men’s Tennis Wins Seventh Straight with 4-0 Sweep of NJIT

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's tennis team won its seventh-straight match with a 4-0 victory over NJIT on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Blue Hens improve to 12-8 on the season.

"That was a solid win for us today, especially in the cold and windy conditions," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "In doubles, we looked great at number three, and Gui and Pascal showed tremendous effort to come back and clinch the doubles point for us after being down 5-0. In singles, we carried that momentum and won the first set on five of the six courts and controlled the match from there. We will build from this confidence as we prepare for Morgan State on Tuesday."

The two teams split the first two doubles matches as the duo of Alexandre Gluck and Tobias Sonne opened things up with a 6-0 win at the No. 3 position. The point came down to the match at No. 2 where Pascal Wagemaker and Guilherme Valdoleiros pulled out a hard-fought 7-6 win to give UD a 1-0 lead.

Valdoleiros kept things rolling with a 6-2, 6-1 win on the No. 5 court in singles before Gluck claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4. James Wilkinson completed the sweep with a 7-6, 6-1 win at the No. 1 position.

Delaware will be back in action on Tuesday when the squad hosts Morgan State in a 4 p.m. match at the Delaware Tennis Courts.
