NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's tennis team improved its winning streak to eight-consecutive matches with a 4-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon in a nonconference match against Morgan State at the Delaware Tennis Courts. With the win, the Blue Hens improve to 13-8 on the season.
"We played Delaware doubles today," said Director of Tennis Pablo Montana. "We were robots and extremely meticulous with our serves, returns, and our patterns. In singles, we took the first set on all 6 courts, and it's fun and exciting for me to see how our guys are applying everything that we're doing in our practices. We will continue building on this momentum as we prepare for Drexel on Friday."
The Blue Hens jumped out quickly as they took the doubles point while dropping just two points. The duo of James Wilkinson and Pierce Gilheany opened things up with a 6-2 win at the No. 1 position before Guilherme Valdoleiros and Pascal Wagemaker clinched it with a 6-0 victory at No. 2.
Alexandre Gluck kept the momentum with UD as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 to start singles play. Valdoleiros also had an easy victory, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6. Wilkinson sealed the Delaware win with a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 1.
The Blue Hens will close out the regular season on Friday when they host Drexel for a CAA matchup. First serve is set for 2 p.m. Prior to the match, the program will recognize its three seniors in a Senior Day ceremony.
