RICHMOND, Va. – Blue Hen junior first baseman Joseph Carpenter was named the Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead Delaware to four wins last week.
Carpenter batted .588 during the four victories, leading the team with 10 hits, nine runs scored, three triples and two homers while ranking second with three doubles and seven RBI.
Carpenter had one hit in Wednesday's win over Rider, and recorded a double and a triple vs. Saint Peter's on Friday. He then went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a homer and three RBI during Saturday's victory over the Peacocks, and finished 3 for 4 with two triples, a homer and three RBI in the triumph on Sunday.
Carpenter has started all 29 games at first base this season for UD, while his 15 doubles are tied for ninth in the country and three more than any other player in the league. His .339 batting average is the 10th highest in the CAA, while his 41 hits are tied for third.
The Blue Hens, who have won nine straight games, head to Saint Joseph's for a 3 p.m. game on Tuesday before a three-game conference series at Hofstra over the weekend.
