Valdoleiros Named CAA Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

NEWARK, Del. –University of Delaware men's tennis graduate student Guilherme Valdoleiros was named the CAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. The award recognizes his efforts in UD's 3-0 week that extended the squad's winning streak to seven matches.
Valdoleiros posted a 3-0 mark in singles and added a pair of doubles wins in Delaware's victories over Saint Joseph's (4-3), James Madison (4-3) and NJIT (4-0) last week. Competing at the No. 5 slot, the grad student helped the Hens rally past SJU by topping Nassim Fenjiro, 6-4, 6-2. With the match against JMU tied at 3-3, he provided the clinching point by defeating Edson Sanchez, 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. Valdoleiros capped his week with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over NJIT's Ashwin Kanetkar. Along with the singles success, he and partner Pascal Wagemaker clinched the doubles point at the No. 2 slot against NJIT and also posted a win to help get the doubles point against JMU.
This is the fifth conference weekly honor for the Blue & Gold this season and the first for Valdoleiros. He was previously named to the CAA Doubles Team of the Week back during the 2019-20 season.
The Blue Hens will take on Morgan State on Tuesday afternoon at the Delaware Tennis Courts with first serve scheduled for 4 p.m.
