HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh before scoring the winning run in the 10th as the Pride took the rubber match of the weekend series with a 6-5 victory over Delaware Sunday afternoon at University Field.
The Blue Hens took the early lead in the top of the first when Joey Loynd ripped a bases loaded single to drive home Bryce Greenly and Jake Dunion.
Hofstra got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Nick Vera doubled home Loynd in the sixth to put Delaware back up a pair. John Weglarz and Greenly then opened the seventh with singles, and one out later both runners crossed the plate on a Joseph Carpenter double to make it a 5-1 game.
However the Pride battled back with four runs in the bottom half, including RBI singles by Ryan Morash and Will Kennedy, to pull even.
Delaware had a chance to go back in front in the top of the ninth when the Blue Hens loaded the bases with one out, but Loynd bounced into a double play. Kennedy then led off the bottom of the 10th with a double and scored on a two-out infield single by Kevin Bruggeman to give Hofstra the win.
Greenly finished 3 for 5 at the plate with a pair of runs scored while Carpenter, Loynd and Weglarz each added two hits on the day. UD starter Wyatt Nelson allowed four runs on five hits in the opening 6.2 innings, while Zach Klapak took his first loss of the year after giving up two runs in three frames of relief.

"Just a tough series to lose. We played well enough to win it. Just a great series and our guys battled their butts off!"
