Blue Hens Earn No. 3 Seed For 2022 CAA Men’s Tennis Championship

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's tennis team learned its seeding for the upcoming 2022 CAA Men's Tennis Championship, which will be held April 22-24 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on the campus of Elon University in Elon, N.C. The Blue Hens earned the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 6 Drexel in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Blue & Gold enter the tournament on a nine-match winning streak and own a 14-8 overall record in dual matches this spring. The squad went 4-0 in contests against CAA opponents, including a 4-3 win over Drexel in the regular season finale on Friday. Against the Dragons, Delaware won a highly-contested doubles point before winning the first three singles matches, claiming victories at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6 positions.
Overall, UD owns a 3-1 record against Drexel in the conference tournament. This will be the first time the Blue Hens and Dragons have met in the CAA Championship since 2013.
Drexel is 9-8 on the season and 1-3 against CAA opponents after closing its regular season with a 4-3 win over Hofstra on Saturday.
The seven-team CAA Championship starts on Friday morning with quarterfinal play. The winners will advance to Saturday's semifinals where the Delaware/Drexel winner will play the winner of No. 2 UNCW and No. 7 Hofstra. The championship match will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday, with an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
