NEWARK, Del. – Delaware women's basketball has added transfers Rebecca Demeke and Michelle Ojo to the roster for the upcoming season, head coach Sarah Jenkins announced Friday. Demeke comes to Newark after a season at Rhode Island, while Ojo joins the Blue Hens from George Washington.
"I am thrilled to have these young ladies join our family," Jenkins said. "They are both tenacious and relentless competitors that will be a huge asset to our program."
Rebecca Demeke, Guard, Toronto, Ontario, Crestwood Prep/NC State/Rhode Island
The 6-0 guard will join the Blue Hens after spending last season at Rhode Island and the previous season at NC State. As a sophomore, she helped lead the Rams to the most wins in program history at 22-7 and their first postseason birth in the WNIT and second overall.
During her rookie campaign with the Wolfpack, Demeke played in 14 games with two starts and averaged 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per outing. She was the only freshman to start a game for the Wolfpack.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Demeke was a member of the 2019 BioSteel All-Canadian Girls Team. She represented her home country and competed with Team Canada at the 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup in Minsk, Belarus. Coming out of Crestwood Prep, Demeke was ranked the No. 8 player in Canada and the No. 2 player at her position by Crown Scout Girls Basketball. In 2017, Demeke took home a gold medal with Team Ontario at the 2017 U15 Girls National Championship en route to the teams' 5-0 record. Outside of basketball, Demeke can play the Tenor Saxophone.
Michelle Ojo, Forward, Virginia Beach, Va., Princess Anne/George Washington
A 6-0 forward out of Virginia Beach, Va., Ojo enters her sophomore season in 2022-23 after spending last season in the nation's capital with George Washington.
She was rated as a three-star recruit and the #14 wing in the class of 2021 by ESPN HoopGurlz coming out of Princess Anne. Ojo helped lead Princess Anne to the VHSL 5A State Championship as both a senior and junior. During her final season she was named First Team All-State after tallying 10.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. Prior to playing at Princess Anne, Ojo spent her freshman and sophomore seasons at Ardrey Kell High School. Born in London, England, Ojo competed for Boo Williams as a member of Nike EYBL on the AAU circuit.
