NEWARK, Del. -  Head Coach Rolf van de Kerkhof announced the addition of freshman Lia Becker to the 2022 field hockey roster Monday.Â
"We are thrilled to welcome Lia to our UDFH program!" said van de Kerkhof. "Lia comes to us from Grossflottbeker Tennis-Hockey und Golf-Club in Hamburg, where she played the previous two seasons with former Blue Hens Pia Freudenberger and Greta Nauck."
Becker, a native of Hamburg, Germany, has been playing field hockey for 12 years. In 2016 she earned a spot on the German Champion team with her club. She is also a two-time German Champion with the team of Hamburg (2017, 2019). In 2019, Becker became a 6-Nations Tournament Winner with the national team. She is the daughter of Andre and Kathrin Becker.
"Lia brings to Delaware experiences gained, not only in the Bundesliga in her native Germany, where she helped her team to two National Championships in 2017 and 2019, but also with the German National Junior Teams, winning the 6 Nations tournament in 2019. Lia is an intelligent and dynamic hockey player, with a high level of both technical and tactical understanding and ability, and she will be a potent asset both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball."
The Blue Hens kicks off the 2022 season with a pair of home games in Rullo Stadium, hosting VCU Friday, Aug. 26 and Virginia Sunday, Aug. 28.Â
