Women’s Soccer Preview: Delaware State

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's soccer team will open up the 2022 season on Thursday, August 18 at 7 p.m. at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium against in-state rival Delaware State. The Blue Hens kick off the 2022-23 school year for all UD teams.

Gameday Atmosphere: Promotions I Route 1 Rivalry
The Route 1 Rivalry trophy presented by DE529 will be on site at Thursday's match. It will be on display at the marketing table at the entrance of the game.
Entry into all women's soccer matches is free of charge for fans of all ages. Concessions will be available for purchase on-site for Thursday's match versus Delaware State.
Up Next: The Delaware women's soccer team will travel to Villanova on Sunday, August 21 to face the Wildcats at 1 p.m. at Higgins Soccer Complex. Villanova opens the season on August 18 at Boston College.

What You Need to Know:
- The Blue Hens will take on Delaware State for the second time in two seasons. Delaware won the last meeting in Newark, 5-1, on March 9, 2021.
- Delaware leads the all-time series, 5-0, dating back to 2009.
- The Blue Hens have six starters returning: Zoe Smith, Sydni Wright, Laura Fluegge, Sara D'Appolonia, Caitlin St. Leger, Claudia Benz.
- Sara D'Appolonia enters 2022 tied for 15th in goals scored with 15. She led or tied the team in points scored and goals from 2019-21.
