RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Delaware Women's Soccer team fell on the road to Richmond, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at President's Field at River Road.
"Tough one today for sure. Knowing that we played on Thursday and they didn't, we knew it was critical to get something early and I thought we started the game well," said Barroqueiro. "They nip one against the run of play and that definitely took the wind from our sails. At the end of the day, it's a chance for us to grow and we need to use it for that. On to Lehigh at home on Thursday."
The Spiders jumped out to a 1-0 lead with the game's only goal in the 17th minute of play. The sailed the ball to the bottom center of the goal off Molly Weirman's right foot to give Richmond the advantage.
Four players for Delaware had multiple shot attempts in the game, but the Richmond defense was able to keep the ball from going for the Blue Hens.
The Blue Hens (1-2-1) had 11 shots to Richmond's 13. Mia Reed made six saves in the net for Delaware playing all 90 minutes. Richmond improved to 1-1-1 on the season.
Delaware returns home to host Lehigh on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
