Women’s Soccer Ties Lehigh, 2-2

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware Women's Soccer team hosted Lehigh at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium, where the Blue Hens tied the Mountain Hawks, 2-2.
"I'm really proud of our girls for how we played tonight," said head coach Mike Barroqueiro. "I thought we did a great job controlling possession and creating opportunities and we looked really cohesive. Obviously we need to do better coming out in the second half to absorb the pressure that we knew was coming and weather the storm, but the more we compete, the better we'll get at those things. All in all, we want the win but we can build on a performance like that."
Izzy Lane fed Raychel Speicher from the right side to send the ball perfectly to Speicher's feet for the goal. The goal made it the second time the Blue Hens have scored first in a game this season.
The Mountain Hawks responded in the 52nd minute with a goal by Julianna Bonner to tie the game at 1-1.
The Blue Hens came back with a sweet goal by Sara D'Appolonia that gave Delaware the 2-1 advantage.
With under six minutes left to play, Lehigh found an opening in the top right of the net to squeeze the ball past Mia Reed and end the game in a tie.
Reed made eight stops in the net for Delaware.
Delaware (1-2-2) moves to 1-0-1 at home.
Lehigh's record improved to (0-2-1), while Maggie Ousouljoglou made four saves for the visitors.
Next up for Delaware is a matchup at Seton Hall on Sunday, September 4 at 1 p.m.
