NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football team will make its 2022 home debut as it renews its in-state rivalry with Delaware State on Saturday evening. Kickoff in Delaware Stadium is set for 6 p.m. in the 11th edition of the Route 1 Rivalry. The game will be broadcast on FloSports and NBC Philadelphia Plus.

About the Blue Hens
- Head Coach Ryan Carty will coach his first game in Delaware Stadium on Saturday after a memorable head coaching debut last weekend at FBS opponent Navy.
- The Blue Hens opened the 2022 season with a 14-7 victory in Annapolis. It was UD's first win over an FBS program since 2007 when the Blue & Gold defeated Navy 59-52.
- Johnny Buchanan tied a Delaware record with 23 tackles in the game to lead the defensive effort. He was recognized as both the CAA Defensive Player of the Week and the Stats Perform National FCS Defensive Player of the Week.
- Noah Plack (17), Liam Trainer (14) and Artis Hemmingway both also set career highs in tackles.
- Nolan Henderson completed 20-of-32 passes against the Midshipmen, improving his streak to 94-consecutive completions without an interception, dating back to the 2020-21 FCS Playoffs.
Scouting Delaware State
- Delaware State opened the 2022 season with a convincing 34-0 victory over Division II Lincoln University on Saturday.
- Delaware State shut out an opponent for the first time in 15 years. The Hornets' last shutout came in a 27-0 victory over North Carolina A&T during Delaware State's MEAC championship season in 2007.
- Three different players registered rushing touchdowns and Jared Lewis connected with Devin Curry on a 67-yard touchdown pass.
- The DSU defense returns all 11 starters from the 2021 squad, which led the MEAC in total defense at 314.6 yards allowed per game. In addition, the Hornets were best in the league in fewest passing yards allowed at 188.8 per contest, while tying for the conference high with 14 interceptions.
- The offense averaged 23.5 points per game last season and gained 293.9 yards per game of total offense with a pretty even split of rushing (142.3 ypg) and passing (151.6 ypg).
