ITHACA, N.Y. – Delaware women's tennis cruised to a season opening win on Saturday with a 5-2 decision at Cornell.
"That was a solid win to start the season," Director of Tennis Pablo Montana said. "We came out firing in doubles and were able to carry that momentum into singles. The match could've turned in either direction, and we were fortunate to hang in there a little bit longer. We will use this confidence as we prepare for Syracuse tomorrow."
Delaware claimed the doubles point after the parings of Maryia Hrynashka/Alina Vasilenko and Toni Nelson/Julieta Honrubia finished in #2 and #3 doubles, respectively.
In singles, UD tallied a 4-2 finish with wins by Eliza Askarova (#2), Vasilenko (#3), Nelson (#4), and Honrubia (6). Askarova and Vasilenko won in straight sets, while Nelson and Honrubia overcame some competition to pull out victories.
The Hens return to action on Sunday with a match at Syracuse at 11 a.m.
