SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Delaware women's tennis fell Sunday afternoon at Syracuse, 5-2. The Blue Hens drop to 1-1 on the season, while the Orange move to 4-0.
'We got off to a great start taking the doubles point with wins on court 1 & 2," assistant coach Lucy Harper said. "Heading into singles we competed well and played with great energy, however we struggled to close out sets today. We are taking the positives from this weekend and are excited for another battle on Tuesday. "
Delaware started with great momentum, claiming the doubles point with wins in first and second flights. The nationally ranked pairing of Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Eliza Askarova cruised to victory with ease. Maryia Hrynashka and Alina Vasilenko in the second slot faced some competition but wrapped up a win.
Abidullina was the lone win on the singles side. She faced a battle from her opponent but was able to prevail.
