PHILADELPHIA – Delaware women's tennis (1-2) was outlasted Tuesday against Penn (), falling to the Quakers 4-3 in a narrow battle. Rookie Maryia Hrynashka shined for the Hens, picking up wins in both doubles and singles play.
"This one will sting for a little bit, but kudos to Penn for playing smarter on the bigger moments," Director of Tennis Pablo Montana said. "This is a match we could have won but we will definitely learn from this and work on things this week to improve."
Delaware claimed the doubles point and went up 2-1 after a pair of singles matches finished, but ultimately couldn't pull out the match point with things knotted at 3-3.
Nationally ranked Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Eliza Askarova stayed the course with a 6-3 win in the top slot. Reigning CAA Rookie of the Year Alina Vasilenko and Hrynashka also cruised to a 6-3 win.
In singles, Hrynashka was the first Hen to finish with a win in the number five spot in straight sets. Julietta Honrubia would be the only other Blue Hen to pick up a win with the match point coming in the number one slot.
Delaware takes the trip to Quinnipiac on Saturday for a battle with the Bobcats.
