PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware field hockey team fell to Temple University 2-0 Sunday afternoon on the road in a non-conference matchup.
COACH'S QUOTE
"Today we played two good quarters of Delaware hockey, but we all understand four has to be the magic number here," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "This team has everything in place to be great and competitive but it has to demand consistency and simplicity from itself. We have five days left until our must-win game versus Drexel and are clear of the challenges and demands we will face this week."
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Freshman Amanda Cimillo made two saves as she played the entire second half
- Senior Berber Bakermans and graduate student Anna-Rose Gabbitass both tallied two shots on the day with one on frame
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens recorded three shots in the first quarter before the Owls could fire one off, but it was Temple's Peyton Rieger who scored the game's first goal and put Delaware behind 1-0
- In the second, the Owls peppered the Delaware goal with five straight shots, but Kylie Walbert made three saves
- On the fifth one, the Owls scored to take a 2-0 lead before the break
- In the third and fourth quarters, Cimillo made a save in each to keep it a 2-0 contest, but the Blue Hens could not find the back of the cage, falling 2-0
