Field Hockey Returns to Form in 2-0 Win Over Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware field hockey team defeated the Drexel Dragons 2-0 Friday afternoon on the road.
COACH'S QUOTE
"I'm so proud of this team. We knew it was a must-win today and the way they put their ten-day preparation out there was beautiful," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "We displayed some impressive Delaware Hockey through great possession, quality attacks and solid defense all four quarters. The contributions on the field, the energy from the bench and the support from our Blue Hen fans made this a full Delaware team effort."
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Graduate student Anna-Rose Gabbitass and freshman Kate Fiest each scored for the Blue Hens
- Freshmen Sarah Rigual and Rachael Whitehead each had an assist
- Sophomore Kylie Walbert made four saves for her third clean sheet of the year
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gabbitass provided the first action of the contest as the Devon, England native found the back of the Dragons cage on an assist from Whitehead to put the Hens on top 1-0 at the 11:22 mark
- In the second, Rigual sent a pass through the middle of the circle to Fiest who snuck her shot past the Drexel keeper and gave Delaware a 2-0 advantage headed to the break
- Despite seven Drexel penalty corners and four shots in the final seconds of the fourth, the Blue & Gold held strong as Walbert made two saves and sophomore Cameron Medinger recorded her third defensive save of the year.
GAME NOTES
- Walbert's four saves gave her 101 on the season and move her into the top-five in the country
- Gabbitass's first quarter goal was her first goal for the Blue Hens
- Fiest's second quarter goal was her first career collegiate goal
- Friday's win over Drexel extends Delaware's win streak over the Dragons to 10 in a row

The Delaware field hockey team returns to action on Friday, Oct. 27 as the Blue Hens host Towson at Rullo Stadium. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
