NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football team had nine players earn 10 All-CAA honors on Tuesday when the conference announced the 2023 CAA Football All-Conference Teams. Jackson Taylor represented the Blue Hens on the first team, while UD had three selections to the second team and five on the third team. The All-CAA teams were selected by votes of the league's 12 head coaches who could not vote for their own players.
Jackson Taylor, LB, First Team
In his first season at the Division I level, Taylor has been a dominant force in the middle of the UD defense. He leads the squad with 97 total tackles and is second with 11.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks. He has surpassed 10 tackles in a game on four different occasions and has had multiple TFLs four times. The two-time Division II All-American was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week after recording 15 tackles, 4.0 TFLs and a sack in a conference win over North Carolina A&T. Taylor is three tackles away from becoming the 36th player in program history to reach 100 tackles in a season.
Marcus Yarns, RB, Second Team
Yarns earns his first All-CAA selection as he has rushed for 846 yards this season, averaging 76.9 rush yards per game and is averaging 105.2 all-purpose yards per game. He is tied for the CAA lead with 14 rushing touchdowns and is third in the country with 17 total touchdowns on the season. Yarns has scored at least one touchdown in eight games this season and has multiple scores in six games, highlighted by a five-touchdown performance at Towson that earned him CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Jourdan Townsend, PR, Second Team; WR, Third Team
Townsend receives All-CAA recognition for the third and fourth time in his career and now has earned two nods at both punt returner and wide receiver. He is averaging 14.4 yards on punt returns this year and had his first career return for a touchdown on an 82-yard score at Hampton. Townsend has led a deep UD receiving corps with 39 catches for 564 yards on the season and has three receiving touchdowns. He had a career-high 122 receiving yards in Delaware's victory over New Hampshire.
Chase McGowan, DL, Second Team
McGowan has now earned All-CAA recognition in each of the past four seasons as he receives his second nod to the second team. He has 39 tackles on the season and is leading the defense with 14.0 TFLs and 5.0 sacks while being disruptive in the backfield with nine quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. McGowan has at least 1.0 TFL in 10 of UD's 11 games this season, including a season-high 3.0 against North Carolina A&T.
Braden Brose, TE, Third Team
Brose receives his first all-conference honor as he has set career-highs with 23 catches for 319 yards this season and has added three touchdown catches. He has had at least one catch in all 11 of UD's games this season, making a season-high four catches for 66 yards against New Hampshire. He has ended the regular season strong with scoring grabs in three of the final four games, including one each in both of Delaware's final two games.
Fintan Brose, OL, Third Team
Brose earns his second selection to the All-CAA Third Team in just his second season on the offensive line after transitioning from the defensive side of the ball. He has helped lead a Delaware rushing attack that has improved by nearly 20 yards per game since last season and the Blue Hens are the only offense in the CAA that is averaging both 260 passing yards and 160 rushing yards per game.
Ty Davis, S, Third Team
Davis receives his first All-CAA nod as he has become a consistent thread on the UD defense. Playing at all three levels, he is third on the defense with 43 tackles and also has 4.0 TFLs, 10 quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and two interceptions. His first-career interception was in the season opener at Stony Brook which he returned 50 yards for the touchdown. All five of his interceptions and fumble recoveries have led to Delaware touchdowns.
Ryan Kost, P, Third Team
Kost earns his fourth all-conference selection and first with the Blue Hens. He previously earned All-Big South Honors in 2020-21 and 2021 and All-CAA recognition last year while at Monmouth. Kost has been a difference-maker on special teams, averaging 44.2 yards on 34 punts. He has nine kicks over 50 yards, including a 76-yard punt at Hampton that was the seventh-longest punt in program history, and the longest since 1996.
Tyron Herring, CB, Honorable Mention
Herring earns all-conference recognition for the second-straight season after being named All-Ivy League in 2022. In his first season with the Blue Hens, Herring has totaled 36 tackles and two interceptions to go along with five pass breakups.
