Women’s Basketball Returns Back Home and Hosts Old Dominion On Delaware Day

NEWARK, Del. – Following a challenging stretch of five away games, Delaware is set for a triumphant return to the First State on Delaware Day. The anticipated celebration will take place Thursday evening at the Bob Carpenter Center as they host their former conference rival, Old Dominion. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast simultaneously on FloHoops and Delmarva Sports Network.
Notably, this marks the first meeting between both programs in a non-conference setting. Adding to the excitement, it's also the inaugural encounter between head coaches Sarah Jenkins and DeLisha Milton-Jones, each leading their respective programs.

- In an explosive start to December, Delaware dominated with a commanding 74-57 victory over Duquesne on Sunday, Dec. 3.
- Spearheaded by a stellar team defensive effort and Tara Cousins' exceptional performance, the Blue Hens secured their third consecutive win.
- Cousins matched her career-best 23 points, showcasing remarkable efficiency on the court: an outstanding 81.8 percent shooting (9-11) from the field and a solid 60 percent (3-5) from beyond the arc.
- Adding to her impact, she contributed four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- Klarke Sconiers also made a significant contribution, tallying 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting while leading the team with six rebounds and blocking two shots.
- Sydney Boone followed closely with 15 points, shooting at 5-of-12 from the field.
- The Blue Hens limited Duquesne to just three points (19-3) in the second quarter and held them to a total of 57 points for the game.
- Notably, the last time Duquesne scored 57 points this season was in a game against Princeton (57-65).
- Cousins' exceptional play in two games last week earned her the title of CAA Player of the Week, a first in her career.
- Hailing from Washington D.C., she averaged 23.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.0 steal per game. Her shooting percentages were impressive: 63.0 percent from the field (17-of-27), 60.0 percent from long range (9-of-15), and 75.0 percent from the free-throw line (3-of-5).
- This season, the senior guard has been on fire, averaging 17.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game, shooting at 51.5 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from three-point territory (22-of-52).
- Over the last five games, Cousins has been especially impressive, scoring 20 or more points in four of them and averaging 21.2 points per game.
- During this stretch, she shot an outstanding 56.7 percent from the field and a solid 48.7 percent from beyond the arc.
- As of Dec. 4, Cousins leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage, three-pointers made, and three-pointers per game (3.1).
- Additionally, she ranks second in points per game and total points (125), fourth in minutes played per game (33.1), sixth in field goal percentage, and ties for ninth in steals per game.
- Nationally, she stands at 15th place in three-pointers per game and 38th in total three-pointers made.
- Old Dominion arrives in Newark undefeated this season, boasting a 7-0 record with their latest win over Florida Gulf Coast, securing a 55-42 victory at home.
- The Monarchs had a strong defensive performance and were led by Jordan McLaughlin, who tied her career best of 22 points with a 3-for-5 effort from the perimeter and a 5-for-6 efficiency at the free-throw line. The senior guard added six rebounds and one assist to her totals.
- En'Dya Buford contributed 13 points with seven boards, one assist, and one steal, going 7-for-7 at the line.
- Mimi McCollister chipped in nine points on 3-for-4 shooting from long range, while Simone Cunningham grabbed a season-high 16 boards with six points and three steals.
- ODU is among an exclusive group of 20 schools nationwide with an undefeated record, representing one of just six mid-major conferences.
- This game marks the 26th encounter between the two teams, with the Monarchs holding a historical edge at 17-8 overall and a 6-4 record in Newark.
- However, the Blue Hens have been on an impressive five-game winning streak against ODU.
- The history between these teams is evenly matched, with both sides claiming victory in five of the last 10 matchups.
