NEWARK, N.J. – Delaware women's tennis (4-2) picked up its third-straight win Saturday with a 6-1 defeat of NJIT (4-2) in the battle of the Newark schools. The victory snaps the Highlanders' four-match win streak.
"That was a solid match to win on the road," Director of Tennis Pablo Montana said. "We came out playing fierce in doubles, and we used that confidence on every court in our singles. We will continue to play with high intensity as we prepare for St. John's on Friday."
Delaware took the doubles point with wins in No. 1 and No. 3, both with 6-1 decisions.
Adel-Byanu Abidullina continued to highlight her skills in the top slot with a convincing victory. Maryia Hrynashka, Toni Nelson, and Isablella Montana also picked up straight set wins on the day.
Alina Vasilenko faced some competition after falling in the opening set, but pulled out set two 7-5, and then garnered a 6-2 decision in the third.
Delaware returns to play Friday at Delcastle Tennis Center as St. John's visits the First State.
