OCEANSIDE, N.Y. – Delaware men's tennis (10-1, 2-0 CAA) dropped Hofstra (6-5, 0-1 CAA) Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 decision to pick up the Hens' ninth-straight win.
"This was a battle today," Assistant Coach Nate Perrone said. "We will gain a great deal of confidence from going on the road and getting a solid 6-1 win against Hofstra. Shoutout to Luis Molina being down 5-3 in the third and coming back to clinch it for us. With the season going along nicely, I am excited. We have some great opportunities coming up to make a real statement."
Hofstra claimed the first doubles match before the Hens top duo knotted things at one apiece. In a tough battle in the second flight, Euan Mackenzie and Tobey Lock pulled out a point clinching win in No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, despite the 6-1 final score, only one flight didn't require a third set or tiebreaker. Udayan Bhakar took the straight-set win in the final slot. Both Daniel Krulig and William Wibmer used tie breakers to garner victories in two sets after a close opening set each. Luis Molina garnered the match clincher for UD after falling dropping the first set.
Delaware will travel to the City of Brotherly Love on Wednesday for a 10 a.m. match against the Temple Owls.
