CHERRY HILL, N.J. – Delaware men's tennis (10-2) narrowly fell Wednesday 4-3 against red-hot Temple (12-2). The victory pushed the Owls' win streak to 12 matches and snapped the Hens' at nine.
"We fought hard but came up a little short," Director of Tennis Pablo Montana said. "My players do the right things on and off the court and I'm so proud of their competitive spirit and sportsmanship. We are playing good tennis and will use this as motivation as we prepare for St. John's this Friday."
Temple claimed the doubles point despite some resistance from the Blue Hens. It took a 7-5 clincher in the third slot with the second flight knotted at 6-6.
The Owls pushed the lead to 3-0 after first and second singles, however the Hens weren't backing down. Daniel Krulig overcame a first set loss to put UD in the scoring column. William Wibmer won in straight sets in the fourth spot to make it a 3-2 match, however a close loss in the fifth slot ended up being the match winner.
Delaware returns to match play for its first competition at the Delaware Fieldhouse Outdoor Courts on Friday as St. John's visits Newark.
