ELON, N.C. – Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Eliza Askarova tied the program single season doubles wins total after snagging a pair of victories in Delaware's triumphs over Elon (13-4, 3-1 CAA) and NC A&T (5-5, 1-2 CAA) on Wednesday. The Blue Hens downed the Phoenix, 4-2, and the Aggies, 4-0. UD moves to 14-3 overall and 4-1 in CAA play.
"We came out sharp in doubles, and we carried that confidence into the singles," Director of Tennis Pablo Montana said of the win over Elon. "We battled hard in singles, and this was a total team effort from one through six as we were able to come away with a big conference victory."
The Hens jumped ahead early with wins in first and third doubles to secure the first point.
UD garnered straight-set wins in first and second singles before Askarova overcame a first set loss to clinch the match for the Blue & Gold.
"I was concerned going into this match that we were going to be a little tired," Montana said heading into the second match of the day. "But these ladies proved me wrong as they came out firing with high, intense energy. We also looked strong on the singles court, and I'm very impressed with where we are with our physical conditioning at this point in the season. This was another big conference win."
Like the first match of the day, the Blue Hens ripped off first and third doubles wins, including the 25th of the season for Abidullina and Askarova to tie the program single season record. Amanda Campbell and Megan Doran also reached 25 doubles wins during the 2008-09 season.
Into singles action, wins at No. 1, 4, and 5 wrapped up the match in flawless style.
Delaware takes on Richmond on Thursday at 3 p.m.
