Men’s Basketball Ends Season in CAA Quarterfinals Against Towson

WASHINGTON – Delaware men's basketball (17-16, 8-10 CAA) saw its season come to a close at the hands of Towson (21-11, 12-6) in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament, falling 86-60.
Towson tallied the first five points of the game before the teams traded buckets for a 7-2 Tigers' advantage at the under-16 media timeout. Towson would stretch its run to 20-3 over a 6:03 span to lead 25-3 with just under 10 minutes left in the opening half. Another Delaware timeout came at 5:38 with the Hens trailing 35-10. Towson ended the period with a 46-20 lead.
Towson held a significant advantage in several important categories, including shooting, nailing 66.7 percent of its shots compared to Delaware's 27.6 percent. The Tigers outrebounded the Blue Hens by 12 (22-10) and gained eight points off turnovers compared to Delaware's two. Delaware's 20 first-half points were the fewest in any half this season.
Towson would extend the lead to as many as 33 before the Hens used a 10-1 run over 2:23 to cut it to 59-35 with 14:06 left in the second. The tone of the game did not change any further in the second half as Delaware fell 86-60.
Overall, Towson shot a scorching 59.6 percent from the field and 29.4 from three compared to Delaware's marks of 38.7 and 16, respectively.
Jameer Nelson Jr. led Delaware with 16 points, while Christian Ray joined him in double figures with 13.
