LUBBOCK, TEXAS – Delaware shortstop JJ Freeman was named to the 2023 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, the College Baseball Foundation announced. The award is presented annually to the nation's top shortstop.
Freeman joins 101 other shortstops across Division I baseball to be named to the list. The award is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played shortstop for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980.
Freeman is having a big year for the Blue Hens, batting .321 with a .921 OPS, contributing seven home runs and 32 RBIs. Freeman is fourth on the team in batting, second in hits, tied for first in triples and tied for third in home runs.
The shortstop finds himself in the top ten of several conference rankings, including hits (third), hits per game (fifth), triples (fourth) and triples per game (eighth).
He is coming off a week where he swatted three home runs and drove in six, batting .347 (8-23) with four extra-base hits.
Freeman will look to continue to bolster his credentials down at UNCW this weekend as the Blue Hens begin a three-game set with the Seahawks on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
