Women’s Tennis Surges Past Georgetown, 5-1
4/8/2023 8:18:00 PM | Women's Tennis
WASHINGTON – Delaware women's tennis (17-3) surged to a 5-1 win on Saturday over Georgetown (11-8). It extended the Hens' win streak to five-straight matches and 16 of the last 17.
"This was a good match to win on the road," Director of Tennis Pablo Montana said. "We had to dig deep to win the doubles point. In singles we got momentum winning early on a few courts. We are playing with a lot of confidence right now."
No. 14 Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Eliza Askarova advanced to 27-2 overall to aid the Blue Hens in claiming the doubles point. Alina Vasilenko and Maryia Hrynashka pulled out a gritty 7-6 win in the second slot with a 7-5 tiebreaker clinch.
In singles action, Delaware danced out to a solid 4-1 outing with one match unfinished due to darkness. Abidullina, Askarova, and Vasilenko won in straight sets, while Hrynashka won in a third set to 10.
Delaware returns to match play on Monday with a pair of matches at the DFH Outdoor Courts against Morgan State and Delaware State.
