Volleyball Clinches Share of CAA Regular Season Championship, Sets Program Record For Consecutive Sets Won in Victory over Elon

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Elon in straight sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) on Saturday, Nov. 16 to clinch a share of the CAA Regular Season Championship. The victory marks the Blue Hens' 10th consecutive win, the longest active streak in the CAA. Delaware also set a program record by winning 18 consecutive sets. Delaware honored Savannah Seemans, Kirah Johnson, Lily Rogers, Hannah Wright, Emily Chrysogelos, and Mackenzie Sobczyk for Senior Day.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Anna Logan Gillens had a match-high 15 kills and hit .324.
- Johnson recorded nine kills on a .350 hitting percentage, three aces, and three blocks.
- Seemans had eight kills, two aces, nine digs, and two blocks.
- Rogers had 29 assists.
- Cadence Nguyen recorded 10 digs.Â
- Taylor Holly had eight digs and an ace.Â
- Hannah Wright had seven digs and an ace.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Delaware turned a 9-7 deficit into a 17-12 lead, fueled by four kills from Gillens.
- Seemans added two kills late in the set to secure the win.
- Gillens recorded six kills, Rogers contributed 10 assists, and Nguyen tallied seven digs.
SET TWO
- Seemans had two aces early on to give Delaware a 12-6 advantage, but Elon fought back to narrow the lead to 14-12.
- Back-to-back kills by Gillens and Sobczyk reignited Delaware, and UD ended the set with a 4-0 run to go up 2-0. Gillens had three straight kills during the run.Â
- Gillens had six more kills in the second, and Rogers had 10 more assists.Â
SET THREE
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had three consecutive kills to give the Blue Hens a 9-4 lead. A 4-0 run, highlighted by three consecutive aces by Johnson, gave Delaware a 16-10 lead.Â
- UD scored the final five points on the match, with Johnson and Seemans picking up kills, to complete the weekend sweep.
- Gillens, Johnson, and Whitfield-Moss each had three kills in the set.
MATCH NOTES
- Delaware claimed at least a share of the CAA Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2011. The Blue Hens also won CAA Regular Season Championships in 2010, 2009, and 2007.
- Delaware also won regular season titles in the America East conference in 1995, 1994, and 1992.Â
- The Blue Hens set a program record with 18 consecutive set wins, surpassing the previous record of 17 set in 2007 and 1982.
- Delaware has 10 consecutive wins for the second straight season, following last year's program-record 15-match streak.
- This marks the first time since 2009 (10) and 2010 (14) that Delaware achieved back-to-back seasons with 10+ win streaks.
- Delaware also has had win streaks of at least 10 in 2007 (twice), 2006, 1994, 1992, 1983, 1982, 1979, 1977,Â
- Delaware is 30-6 in CAA play over the last two seasons, its most conference wins in a two-year span in program history.
- The Blue Hens are 16-1 in their last 17 home matches.
- Seemans is one ace shy of becoming the fourth player in program history to reach 200 career aces.
- Johnson has recorded three or more blocks in all 10 matches during Delaware's win streak, averaging 1.34 blocks per set.
- Gillens had her eighth match this season with at least 15 kills.
- Nguyen has logged double-digit digs in four consecutive matches and in 16 of her last 19 contests.

Delaware will aim to defend its CAA Conference Tournament Championship as the No. 2 seed. The Blue Hens face the winner of No. 3 Towson and No. 6 Stony Brook on Friday, Nov. 22, at 6:00 p.m.
