RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Delaware men's soccer team earned a multitude of spots on the CAA's annual awards list that was announced Wednesday afternoon.
Freshman, Marius Stenner, was named the CAA Rookie of the Year while also being added to the All-CAA First Team and All-Rookie Team rosters. Senior, Sam Donnellan, also earned a spot on the All-CAA First Team roster and sophomore, Jan Schroeder, was named to the All-CAA Third Team roster.
Stenner has been no stranger to the conference weekly awards list as he earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week after his collegiate debut performance against Howard. The Danish forward was then awarded Rookie of the Week twice after his performances at Campbell and UNCW. Nationally, Stenner received recognition from Top Drawer Soccer as he was ranked 14 on their Midseason Top 100 Freshman List as he outranked all other CAA freshmen. At the conclusion of the regular season, Stenner was tied for first in the country for game winning goals at five. He was the only freshman to achieve this accolade, with the next freshman earning three. He also sits in the top 50 for total points and total goals, and top 100 for total assists. Since game one, he has been the team leader in points as he accumulated 23 over his 16 matches played. He is tied in first for goals at nine and tied for second in assists at five. Stenner follows in the footsteps of teammate Rich Monath who was named the 2023 CAA Rookie of the Year. He is the sixth player in Blue Hen program history to be named CAA Rookie of the Year.
Donnellan finished off his senior season at the top of the team leader board alongside Stenner. The Australian forward was awarded CAA Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals from two shots on goal during the UNCW match. Donnellan is a familiar face on the CAA yearly team rosters as he earned a spot on the 2023 First Team, 2022 All-Rookie, and 2022 Second Team rosters. Entering his final season, Donnellan was named to the All-CAA First Team roster. He closed the season tied for team leader with nine goals to put him in second for points at 22. His calculated approach to the game has resulted in his nine shots on goal translating to nine goals. His successful penalty kick attempt during the Mount St. Mary's match earned him the game winning goal. Nationally, Donnellan is tied for first in penalty kicks and ranked in the top 50 for total points and total goals.
Schroeder returned to the Hens for his sophomore campaign as the team's strongest defender. He finished his freshman season off with a spot on the 2023 CAA All-Rookie roster. Hailing from Germany, Schroeder finished the season as team leader for assists at six while only playing for ten matches. He picked up his season high with two assists against Howard for the year's opening match. At the conclusion of the regular season, Schroeder was tied for fifth in the conference for assists and landed in the top 60 nationally.
