Softball Announces 2025 Schedule

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball has announced its schedule for the 2025 season, its final season as a member of the CAA. The schedule features 55 regular season games, including 21 contests at the newly-renovated Delaware Softball Diamond. The Blue Hens will also play eight games against Power 4 schools and six games against 2024 NCAA Tournament teams. The program will also celebrate its 50th season, presented by Delaware State Parks, all year long.Â
Delaware begins the year in Tampa, Fla. on February 6, with games against Illinois State, South Florida, Georgia Southern, Michigan, and Florida. Both Michigan and Florida won their conference tournament championships in 2024, with Florida advancing to the semifinals of the College World Series before falling to eventual four-time champion Oklahoma.
The Blue Hens will then head to Harrisonburg, Va., to compete in the Weiler Orthodontics Invitational, hosted by former CAA rival James Madison. Delaware will also face Saint Francis and Buffalo during the event. Saint Francis finished the 2024 season with a 41-14 record, including a perfect 24-0 in NEC play, and earned an NCAA Tournament win against Siena.
Next, Delaware returns to Charlottesville, Va., for the Rawlings Classic for the second-consecutive year, where it will play Virginia, Longwood, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Virginia won two NCAA Tournament games last season. In 2024, the Blue Hens posted a 3-1 record at the Rawlings Classic, highlighted by two wins over Iowa State.
Delaware will unveil its newly-renovated stadium during a seven-game homestand, first during the Blue Hen Invitational from February 27 - March 1 against Syracuse, Quinnipiac, and Morgan State. The Blue Hens will remain in Newark for a doubleheader against Coppin State on March 5.
Conference play begins on the road with a three-game series at Drexel starting March 7. Delaware swept Drexel last season, outscoring the Dragons 12-4 across three games. The Blue Hens are also 12-4 in their last 16 matchups with Drexel since 2021.
Delaware will play a home non-conference game against Saint Joseph's before hosting Stony Brook for three games starting on March 14. The Blue Hens boast an 8-1 all-time record against Stony Brook, including four wins last season. Emily Winburn pitched a two-hit shutout against the Seawolves during the 2024 CAA Tournament in a 3-0 victory.
Delaware will travel to Hofstra on March 21. The Blue Hens took the series last season and are 8-3 against the Pride in the last 11 games. Morgan Hess pitched a no-hitter against Hofstra on April 20 last season. The Blue Hens then travel to College Park, Md. for a game against Maryland. It will be Delaware's first game against Maryland since 2018 and its first trip to College Park since 2009.
The team concludes March with a home series against Elon, marking the Phoenix's first visit to Newark since 2022. Delaware took two-of-three games against Elon on the road last season and has won 11 of the last 14 matchups since 2018.
Delaware will play 12 of its 16 games in April on the road, beginning with a five-game road trip including three in Wilmington, N.C. against UNCW on April 4. The Blue Hens will then play a doubleheader against 302-rival Delaware State on April 9. Delaware is 35-7-1 all-time against Delaware State, including having won five straight.
CAA play resumes at home against North Carolina A&T on April 11. Delaware is 5-0 all-time against the Aggies, and scored 32 runs against N.C. A&T during last season's three-game sweep.Â
The Blue Hens will again hit the road, starting with Villanova on April 15. The reigning Big East Champions won two NCAA Tournament games last season, but Delaware defeated the Wildcats 5-3 last season. Delaware will travel next to play Hampton on the road on April 19. The Blue Hens are 9-1 all-time against Hampton, including 4-0 on the road, but have not traveled to Hampton, Va. since an 8-2 victory on March 8, 2020.
A midweek rematch with Maryland will take place in Newark on April 23, marking Maryland's first trip to Delaware since 2006. The Blue Hens wrap up April with a road series against Monmouth, where they have won six-straight games dating back to 2022, including last season's sweep where the Blue Hens outscored the Hawks 13-4.
Delaware begins May and concludes the regular season with three games against Towson at home. The Blue Hens won all three games against the Tigers and outscored them 21-3 last season. The CAA Tournament is set to begin on May 7 in Buies Creek, N.C., hosted by Campbell.
Delaware is coming off a season in which it set program records for wins in a season (39) and conference wins in a season (21) while tying its program record for longest win streak (13) and longest conference win streak (10). The Hens have won at least 25 games in a program record four-straight seasons. The Blue Hens led the CAA in average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, runs scored, doubles, and ERA in 2024. Their 1.98 ERA was ninth best in the NCAA. Delaware was also top five in the conference in home runs, shutouts, triples, walks, and stolen bases. Delaware has been ranked top five in the CAA in average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, and ERA for five-consecutive seasons.
