Toni Sabev Becomes First Swimmer in Delaware Program History to Qualify for NCAA Championship Meet

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware Swimming & Diving athlete Toni Sabev becomes the first swimmer in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet, the league announced on Wednesday.

Sabev earned a spot in the 100 breaststroke after placing second in the CAA Championships with a program record setting time of 51.87 seconds. He will also compete in the 200 breaststroke. Sabev placed first in the 200 breaststroke in the CAA Championships with another program record setting time of 1:55.92, which earned him an NCAA B cut.

While Sabev is the first swimmer in program history to make the NCAA Championship Meet for UD, he is not the first memeber of the swimming & diving program to compete. Julie Vandeusen competed in the 1-meter dive back in 2002, in which she finished 33rd with an overall score of 225.65.

The NCAA Championships will take place from March 27-30 in Indianapolis, Ind.
