Strong Pitching Performance Lifts Baseball to 5-3 Win over William & Mary

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware baseball team defeated William & Mary by a score of 5-3 on Saturday at Bob Hannah Stadium.

With the win, the Blue Hens are now 13-12 overall and 3-2 in Coastal Athletic Association play.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

The lone Blue Hen with multiple hits was Chris Dengler, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double.
Doug Marose started the game on the mound for UD. He had a dominant performance, pitched seven innings, allowed just one earned run off three hits, walked two batters and struck out eight. He was credited with the decision and is now 2-2 on the season.
Anthony Gubitosi pitched the final two innings, allowed two earned runs off of three hits, and struck out four batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After the Tribe got on the board with a run in the first inning, the Blue Hens responded with four runs in the first and second innings.
The rally started in the bottom of the first off a ground out RBI from Joey Loynd. In the second, Brett Lesher scored two runs with a single to right center field, and Bryce Greenly brought in Jackson Tyer on a ground out to the shortstop to make it a 4-1 Blue Hens lead.
Chris Dengler added to the lead with a two out RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-1.
The Tribe hit a two run home run to cut the Blue Hen lead down to 5-3, but Gubitosi responded with multiple strikeouts and a ground out to end the game.
