ELON, N.C. - University of Delaware softball defeated Elon, 4-2, on Saturday, April 6, 2024 to even up the weekend series.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Morgan Hess threw a complete game, allowing just two earned runs while striking out three.
Syndey Shaffer went 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.
Katie Scheivert went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Maddie Fife went 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored.
Gianna Costaro went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Delaware loaded the bases with no outs to begin the game after an error and two walks. Costaro brought home the first run by getting hit by a pitch to score Julz Garber.
Hess struck out a hitter in a scoreless first.
Blantz led off the second inning by reaching second base on an error, then came around to score on two wild pitches. After Fife walked and Garber doubled off the top of the wall, Scheivert dumped an RBI single into left field to put Delaware up 3-0.
Two strikeouts in the bottom of the second helped Hess through another scoreless inning.
Hess also threw scoreless third and fourth innings, recording four groundouts, including a double play. to keep Elon off the board.
Elon scratched runs across in the fourth and fifth to cut Delaware's lead down to a run.
Shaffer gave Delaware an insurance run in the seventh by blasting a home run to put Delaware up 4-2.
Hess closed out the game with a hitless bottom of the seventh, giving Delaware the win.

GAME NOTES

Delaware has won 25 games in four straight seasons for the first time in program history.
Shaffer's home run was the fifth of her career and third this season.
Hess threw her third complete game of the season and 28th of her career.
Scheivert has a hit in five straight games.

Delaware plays the rubber game of the series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
