NEWARK, Del. – Former Memphis Tiger and Virginia Tech Hokie John Camden is joining the University of Delaware men's basketball program, head coach Martin Ingelsby announced Friday. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
"John is a super skilled forward who will fit very well in our system," Ingelsby said. "He was a top 100 recruit coming out of high school. We feel his experience and overall ability will make an immediate impact here in Newark. He shoots well, can handle the basketball well, and provides size & toughness at multiple positions that will give us versatility with our roster."
Camden spent the past two seasons at Virginia Tech where he played in 37 games for the Hokies after spending his freshman campaign at Memphis. The Downingtown, Pennsylvania native appeared in just one game before missing his freshman season with an injury.
The 6-8 forward spent his final high school season at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Prior to that he played at Archbishop Carroll, the same high school as Ingelsby and associate head coach Bill Phillips. His junior season, Camden scored 15.8 points per game.
Camden was a four-star recruit and the 90th-ranked in the nation by Rivals when he came out of high school.
