NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware softball was defeated by Campbell, 2-1, on Thursday, May 2, 2024 in the opener of the final series of the regular season. Delaware still maintains a lead in the standings over Campbell, up one game with two to play.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Emily Winburn allowed no earned runs while pitching all seven innings. She gave up just three hits and walked none.
Sydney Shaffer drove in the only run with an opposite field RBI double.
Julia Boyet scored a run.
Katie Scheivert walked.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Winburn threw a hitless first inning, but an error helped Campbell score the first run. A caught stealing by Maddie Fife helped limit the damage.
An error and a hit put two runners on against Winburn in the second, but a strikeout ended the threat.
Winburn retired 11 straight from the second inning to the end of the fifth. Delaware was able to tie the game at one in the fourth. Boyet reached on a hit by pitch and Shaffer doubled her home to even the score.
Campbell scored an unearned run in the sixth to take the lead back.
Winburn threw a scoreless seventh, but Campbell sealed the win in the bottom half of the inning.

GAME NOTES

Winburn pitched her 18th complete game of the season and 54th of her career. She is tied for ninth all-time in single-season complete games in Delaware history. She has complete games in 13 of her last 14 games.
Winburn has a 1.28 ERA since March 3 and a 0.85 ERA since March 20.
Shaffer hit her 15th double of the season, putting her in sole possession for fourth most in a single-season in program history.
