NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's lacrosse program and head coach Ben DeLuca are thrilled to announce the hiring of new assistant coach Kacy Kapinos.
"The Delaware men's lacrosse program is excited to welcome Kacy as the newest member of our coaching staff. Kacy brings a wealth of leadership and coaching experience from his time serving as a high school, club and college lacrosse coach," said DeLuca. "Kacy has a keen mind for the game, a relentless work ethic, and personal character that is directly in line with our program's core values."
Kapinos is a 2016 graduate from The Ohio State University. While a member of the Buckeyes men's lacrosse team, Kapinos served as team captain his senior year. In 2015 he earned an academic All-Big Ten Award and in 2013, Kapinos and the Buckeyes won the ECAC Championship over Denver to advance to the NCAA tournament. The Buckeyes defeated Towson in the NCAA first round before falling to Cornell in the NCAA Quarterfinals.
Kapinos comes to Delaware with over 10 years of coaching experience, from the high school and club levels to the collegiate level, most recently at Lafayette College. While with the Leopards, Kapinos led the faceoff and wing units, scout team defense, and scout man-down while also running the substitution box. His expertise helped Lafayette go from a .440 faceoff percentage in 2023 to .571in 2024. It was the Leopards' highest faceoff percentage in Lafayette's Patriot League era.
"I am excited and grateful to join the Delaware lacrosse staff as an assistant coach. It is an honor to be a part of such a respected program," said Kapinos. "I want to thank Coach DeLuca and the University of Delaware for this incredible opportunity. Coach DeLuca's commitment to developing men of character through the culture he and his staff have built is truly inspiring. I look forward to building meaningful relationships with the student-athletes and contributing to the growth of this great program."
Before his time in Easton, Pa. Kapinos began his coaching career as the head coach of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes lacrosse club. He built a winning program through his ability to instill confidence in his athletes and teaching them how to overcome challenges. Kapinos honed his ability to recruit as he brought in over 20 families to join the organization. During his time with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Kapinos was the assistant coach for Loyola Blakefield in Baltimore. While at Loyola Blakefield, Kapinos implemented and managed skill development for goalie and face-off units and developed and led pre-practice offensive skill work.
Prior to his coaching career, Kapinos was a sales representative for Zimmer Biomet in Baltimore.
