Tate Wasson '23, '24 Hired as Men's Lacrosse Assistant Coach

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's lacrosse program has hired Tate Wasson '23, '24 as an assistant coach, head coach Ben DeLuca announced this week. He assumed the role beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Wasson was most recently elevated to defensive coordinator at Swarthmore in the summer of 2026 after helping guide Swarthmore to back-to-back Centennial Conference Tournament appearances and a 23-13 overall record during his two seasons on staff.
"Thank you to Jordan Skolnick and Coach DeLuca for allowing me the honor to come back to the University of Delaware, I am blessed to assist in leading this program," Wasson said. "I am grateful and honored for the opportunity to work with Trey Wilkes and Mark Bieda; they have been tremendous in my transition to Delaware. I am thrilled to embark on the next phase of Delaware Men's Lacrosse through developing fantastic young men, winning championships, and continuing the tradition of the program. Go Hens!"
At Delaware, Wasson will primarily work with the faceoff unit.
He spent two seasons with the Garnet serving as the team's coach for face-off specialists and defensive midfielders.
The Garnet defense finished in the top three in the Centennial Conference in goals-against average in each of the past two seasons with Wasson on staff. In 2026, Swarthmore allowed just 9.38 goals per game, the third-lowest mark in the conference. Under Wasson's guidance, the Garnet also finished second in the Centennial in faceoff percentage at .597, while tutoring the student-athlete with the highest faceoff percentage at .650.
Wasson was a standout defender for the Fightin' Blue Hens, helping lead UD to a CAA championship and NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2022 and 2023, being named a team captain in 2024. He earned a bachelor's degree in sport management and a master's degree in international business, while being named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in 2020-21 and 2023.
Wasson earned a bachelor's degree in sport management in 2023 and a master's degree in international business in 2024 from Delaware.
