Football Adds Crabb and Townsend to Coaching Staff

NEWARK, Del. – Head Coach Ryan Carty and the University of Delaware football program has announced the additions of Ty Crabb and Jourdan Townsend to the coaching staff. Both will serve as offensive analysts and work with various aspects of the team's offense and special teams.
"I am thrilled to bring Ty and Jourdan on board as members of our coaching staff," Carty said. "Jourdan has a firm grasp of our offense already and both possess a strong football IQ and bring a high level of energy every day. They are both going to be valuable assets to the program and our student-athletes."
Crabb joins the Blue Hens after spending the 2023 season as the cornerbacks coach at Christopher Newport University. The Captains went 7-4 during his one season on the coaching staff and won the NJAC title with a 5-1 record in conference play to advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 2014. The defense was among the conference leaders with 13 interceptions on the season. Crabb coached CNU's running backs and tight ends during the 2023 spring practices.
Crabb was a versatile player on the Captains roster for his final three seasons of eligibility, playing under current Delaware Assistant Head Coach Art Link and alongside Delaware Senior Defensive Analyst Nick Hunter. He began his career at Stevenson where he appeared in all 11 games at quarterback in 2018, starting the last six. He passed for 1,094 yards and 10 touchdowns while also rushing for 203 yards and four scores.
A native of Burke, Virginia, Crabb played his high school football and graduated from Lake Braddock High School.
Townsend joins the coaching staff after a stellar playing career for the Blue Hens in which he finished ranked 11th in program history in career receptions (140) and 14th in career receiving yards (1,662). The four-time All-CAA selection led the offense in both receptions and receiving yards in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
In his final season, Townsend led a deep UD receiving corps with 49 catches for 661 yards on the season, including 10 catches for 97 yards in two FCS playoff games. On special teams, Townsend averaged 13.9 yards on punt returns and had his first career return for a touchdown on an 82-yard score at Hampton.
In May, Townsend earned an invitation to attend rookie minicamp with the Cleveland Browns.
The Blue Hens will open the 2024 season on Thursday, August 29 against Bryant at Delaware Stadium. Tickets for the 2024 season are on sale now with fans able to purchase season tickets, partial plan packages and single game tickets for all seven of Delaware's home games.
