Field Hockey Garners Three All-CAA Preseason Accolades

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware field hockey program featured three Preseason All-CAA athletes as senior Genevieve Johnson was named to the Preseason All-CAA team while Noelle Sabbagh and Rachael Whitehead received honorable mention, the conference office announced Monday, morning.
Johnson, a Richmond, Va. native, comes off a 2023 season in which she started all 17 matches for the Hens, tallying three goals and one assist for seven points. She earned All-CAA Second Team honors for the first time in her career. This is the first time Johnson has been named to the Preseason All-CAA team.
Sabbagh, a Lewes, Del. native and Whitehead, a Hockessin, Del. native were key contributors for the 2023 iteration of the Blue Hens. Sabbagh's four goals were the third most for the Hens and her nine points were good for fourth. She was named All-CAA Second Team in 2023 and was a CAA All-Freshman Team member in 2022. Like Sabbagh in 2022, Whitehead was named to the 2023 CAA All-Freshman squad after tallying two goals and three assists for seven points in her rookie campaign.
The Blue Hens were picked to finish fifth in the conference as UD garnered 20 points, behind Northeastern (22) and in front of Hofstra (10). Monmouth earned the top spot with 32 total points and three first place votes. Drexel and William & Mary each received two first place votes and 28 total points. Towson rounded out the preseason poll with seven points.
The Blue Hens are set to open the 2024 season on Sept. 1 on the road as Delaware heads to Easton, Pa. to face Lafayette at 1 p.m.
