Field Hockey Wins Inaugural Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship

DAVIS, Calif. - University of Delaware field hockey defeated UC Davis in the first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Field Hockey Championship, by a score of 2-1.
Rachael Whitehead and Noelle Sabbagh scored goals for UD, as it scored two unanswered to defeat the Aggies.
ON THE RECORD
- We are proud to make history by winning the inaugural MPSF Championship, head coach Tara Zollinger said. Congratulations to UC Davis on a great season and thank you to the MPSF for a great championship experience for our student-athletes. We're beyond excited to bring this title home and set the standard for what's to come.
HEN HIGHLIGHTSÂ
- This is the Fightin' Blue Hens 13th conference championship in the last 15 years, and third in the past four years.
- Whitehead earned the championship's Most Valuable Player honor.
- Tara Zollinger won her third conference championship as a head coach.
- Kristi Merashoff stopped three shots in goal for Delaware.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 17th minute, UC Davis struck first, attempting to set the tone on their home turf.
- Delaware responded quickly, just three minutes later off the stick of Whitehead, assisted by Sarah Rigual.
- Starting off the second half, Sabbagh shot over a diving defender's stick to find the back of the cage for her second goal of the season.
GAME NOTES
- Both goal scorers in the game hail from the state of Delaware.
- Lainey Baker, Iris Bekker, Cameron Medinger, Kristi Merashoff, Emma Miller, Izzy Rothwell, and Noelle Sabbagh played their final games in Blue & Gold.
