NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware Head Swimming & Diving Coach Pablo Marmolejo has signed a contract extension through the 2029 season, Director of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation Chrissi Rawak announced Monday.
"I am so grateful to Pablo and his staff for their hard work and dedication to our swimmers and divers," Rawak said. "Our programs have continued to improve year-over-year under Pablo's guidance and I am excited to watch as he leads us into this new era of Delaware Athletics and into the Atlantic Sun Conference."
Under Marmolejo, the Blue Hens have reached new heights both in and out of the pool. The men's and women's teams placed second at the Coastal Athletic Association Conference Championships in 2023 – the best finish for the women's team since 2001. The men's finish is the third-consecutive year.
"I want to thank Chrissi for her continued belief and for providing me with the opportunity to lead the Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams," Marmolejo said. "My staff and I are grateful for the opportunity to continue here and be a part of a great institution and community. We are proud of what we've accomplished in the CAA and look forward to increasing the success of our program as we head into the ASUN."
Out of the pool, both teams were selected by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as a Scholar All-American Team for the past seven semesters. During Marmolejo's tenure, the men's team has posted an annual GPA of 3.0 or higher, while the women's program has garnered a 3.3 or higher.
Marmojeo coached Toni Sabev, who became the first men's swimmer to compete in the NCAA Championships in 100 and 200 breaststroke in 2024. On the diving side, Kevin Siegfried, Philip Townsend, Julia Servas and Alex Pastris competed in the NCAA Diving Regional.
This past summer, Sabev and Kaloyan Levterov competed at the European Championships for a spot on the Bulgarian olympic team. Gavin Currie competed in the U.S. Open Championship for a spot on the U.S. olympic team.
Since Marmojeo took over, 34 program records have been broken between the men's and women's teams (19 men's, 15 women's).
The two programs combined for 35 top three finishes, including five first place finishes on both sides in 2023.
Collectively, the programs have won 31 CAA Championships under Marmolejo and both programs have recorded their best finishes at the CAA Championships.
Since the start of the 2021-22 season, the men's team is 19-1 and the women's team is 19-1-1 in dual meets.
Marmojelo will guide a new chapter for the Blue Hens swimming & diving program, who are set to compete in the ASUN in the 2025-26 season.
