Chloe Wilson Scores 1,500th Career Point as Women’s Basketball Sinks the Pirates, 79-69

HAMPTON, Va. – Chloe Wilson scored her 1,500th career point in the University of Delaware women's basketball team's 79-69 victory over the Hampton Pirates. The Blue Hens got their first win since December 7, improving to 4-10, while the Pirates fell to 4-12.
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Wilson passed the 1,500 career point mark with 12 points to go with five rebounds.
- Five Blue Hens scored in double figures for the first time since November 19 against Colgate.
- UD made a season-best 13 threes in the contest.
- Ella Wanzer scored a season-high 20 points, surpassing her previous high of 14, which she tied in the first half. Wanzer made six threes, which is also her best mark this season.
- Rebecca Demeke (16), Michelle Ojo (14), and Tara Cousins (11) joined Wanzer and Wilson in double figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware led 24-12 after the first quarter, leading from start to finish. The Hens made 5-of-6 from deep in the opening frame, led by Demeke and Wanzer with two apiece.
- At the second quarter media timeout, the Blue & Gold led 32-19 after trading baskets to begin the stanza. Eight unanswered UD points expanded the lead to 18 with 1:56 to go in the half. Delaware held a 45-27 advantage heading into the locker room.
- The hot shooting for the Hens continued into the second half, making 4-of-5 field goals to open up a 20-point lead with 5:21 to play in the third. Wilson picked up her 1,500th point on a layup late in the third. After three, Delaware led 66-49.
- An 8-0 Hampton run over 1:40 led to a timeout by Sarah Jenkins with her team up by 12 at the first media stoppage of the fourth quarter. The scoring drought continued for the Hens, reaching 4:16 leading into the game's final media timeout with 4:35 to play while maintaining an 11-point lead. Wanzer broke the scoring drought with her sixth three of the contest with 3:06 to go. Another 6-0 Hampton run reduced the game to single digits for the first time since the opening frame. The Hens held on for a 10-point victory while never trailing in the contest.
GAME NOTES
- Sydney Boone made her first start of the season. This marked the first time in five games that the Hens had a new starting group. Rebecca Demeke, Tara Cousins, Ella Wanzer, Chloe Wilson, and Ande'a Cherisier had started the previous five games.
