Wilson and Cousins Combine for 44 Points as Women’s Basketball Drops CAA Opener at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Delaware women's basketball team dropped its CAA opener on Friday night at Drexel, 65-59. The Blue Hens fall to 3-8, while the Dragons improve to 5-6.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware shot 50-percent in the first half and 44-percent from three for the game.
- Chloe Wilson posted her fifth double-double of the year with a season-high 24 points on 8-of-12 from the floor to go with 10 rebounds. It was her 20th career double-double.
- Tara Cousins tallied a season-best 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting and 3-of-5 from deep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- At the end of the first, the Dragons led 24-15. Wilson and Cousins combined for 13 of the 15 points for the Hens.
- The second quarter saw Delaware force four turnovers before the media stoppage, but the Dragons led 32-24 with 3:30 to go in the half. The half ended with a 6-3 Drexel run, allowing the home team to take a 38-27 advantage into the locker room. Wilson led all scorers in the first half with 11 points.
- Delaware began the third quarter holding the Dragons scoreless through the first 3:04. After a layup for Drexel, the Dragons embarked on another long scoreless drought of 2:46 heading into the first media stoppage of the second half, leaving a five-point game with 4:10 remaining in the quarter. UD outscored Drexel 8-2 in the first 5:50 of the half. Drexel called timeout with 1:26 left in the third as the Blue & Gold trailed 45-39. The Hens finished the quarter with a 4-3 advantage, leaving it a five-point game heading into the final frame.
- Drexel took a 6-0 run in 44 seconds into the fourth quarter media timeout at 4:12, leading 58-50. UD held Drexel scoreless for 3:18, leading to a Dragons timeout with a score of 59-55 in favor of Drexel. Wilson drew a foul with 48 ticks remaining, knocking down two free throws to cut it to 61-57, coinciding with a 3:28 scoreless streak for the Dragons. Drexel ended the game with no field goals in the last 4:16.
GAME NOTES
- This was the first game for Delaware in 15 days.
