Volleyball Wins Fourth Consecutive Match After Victory Against Middle Tennessee

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Middle Tennessee in four sets (25-21, 25-11, 23-25, 25-23) to extend its win streak to four-straight. UD improved its record to 4-2 in Conference USA play, while MTSU fell to 1-5.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Anna Logan Gillens tallied a team-best 12 kills to go with four blocks
- Raina Hughes had another efficient game with a .368 hitting percentage to go with nine kills.
- Jayda Redd recorded eight kills, 11 digs, and three blocks.
- Aubrey Lyssy and Kennedi Inman combined for 29 assists. Lyssy had 15 assists, eight digs, and two kills while Inman posted 14 assists and six digs.
- Cadence Nguyen had 18 digs, seven assists, and two aces.
- Thalia Yancey recorded eight digs.
- Sila Ozyurek notched seven blocks and five kills.
- Asia Murray had six blocks and two aces.
FIRST SET
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Middle Tennessee controlled the early goings of the match, leading 14-11.
- Delaware took its first lead of the match by using a 3-0 run to go up 18-16. Hughes had a stretch of three kills over a five-point stretch. A kill by Gillens made the score 22-19, then the Blue Hens ended the set on a 3-0 run on a kill by Gillens, a setting error from MTSU, and an ace by Holly to take a 1-0 lead.
- Gillens had a set-high seven kills, and Hughes added five. Nguyen had six digs.
SECOND SET
- Delaware never trailed in the second set, exploding early with a 7-1 lead highlighted by two-straight aces from Murray.
- UD extended its lead to 15-6, then used a 5-0 run to go up 20-7. Murray had back-to-back blocks to cap off the run. The Blue Hens then scored the last four points to take a 2-0 lead.
- The 11 points allowed by Delaware were tied for its fewest allowed in a set this season, also done in the first set against Hampton on Sept. 6. Redd has three kills and five digs in the set.
THIRD SET
- The Blue Hens jumped out to a 9-4 lead and then used a 4-0 run to go up 14-6.
- MTSU scored seven straight and nine of the next 10 points to even the score at 15. The Blue Raiders later scored five straight points and led 20-17. A block from Murray and Yancey evened the score at 23, but the Blue Raiders finished off the set.
- Hughes and Redd each had two kills in the set. Nguyen had four digs.
FOURTH SET
- MTSU took an early lead at 8-4 to start the fourth and maintained an 11-8 lead. Delaware scored six of the next seven points, including a 4-0 run where Yancey had back-to-back kills, to take a 14-12 lead.
- The Blue Raiders responded to take a 21-18 lead before UD rallied to tie the score. MTSU led 23-21, but the Blue Hens scored the final four points of the set and match to claim the victory. Ozyurek had two kills and a block in the final stretch.
- Dylan Norris had four kills in the fourth and Ozyurek had four blocks. Nguyen recorded five digs.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware improved to 24-7 under Lambert in the month of October and 21-2 over the last three seasons.
- Gillens has double-digit kills in seven of her last eight matches. She is averaging 3.48 kills per set over her last eight matches.
- In Hughes' last five matches, she is hitting .351 with 44 kills in 17 sets.
- Ozyurek's seven total blocks tied a season-high. She also had seven against New Mexico State on Sept. 26.
- Yancey's five kills were a career-high.
- Murray has recorded at least five blocks for four-straight matches and for the eighth time this season.
- Nguyen has had double-digit digs in seven-straight matches. She is averaging 3.80 digs per set in that stretch.
UP NEXT
Delaware will play FIU on the road on Oct. 17 and 18 in Miami, Fla. Both teams are 4-2 in CUSA play.
