Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep of LA Tech

RUSTON, LA. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated LA Tech in four sets (25-16, 25-23, 20-25, 25-17) to complete a 2-0 weekend and earn its first two victories ever in Conference USA play. Head coach Kimberly Lambert is now 7-1 during the first road conference weekend at Delaware.Â

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Anna Logan Gillens had a match-high 14 kills and hit .290.Â
- Raina Hughes recorded 10 kills and hit .333 with three blocks.Â
- Asia Murray had nine kills and five blocks.Â
- Kennedi Inman and Aubrey Lyssy combined for 36 assists. Inman had 19 assists and five digs and Lyssy picked up 17 assists and 11 digs.Â
- Cadence Nguyan had 13 digs and seven assists.Â
- Sila Ozyurek notched four kills and four blocks.Â
- Thalia Yancey recorded 10 digs.Â
HOW ITÂ HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Delaware led for nearly the entire first set, and used a 5-0 run to create separation and take a 12-6 lead. Hughes had three kills in the run.
- UD maintained control to end the set and took a 1-0 lead after Yancey and Murray teamed up for a block for the final point.
- Hughes had eight kills in the first set, equaling the most by a Delaware player in any set this season. The Blue Hens hit .412 in the opening set.Â
- Set two featured 10 ties and two lead changes. UD got off to a 4-0 lead before LA Tech tied the score at six.Â
- LA Tech took the lead at 15-12 and 17-15 before Delaware tied the score at 18. Four-straight points from UD gave the Blue Hens a 22-20 lead. Delaware then scored three of the final four points of the set, capped off on another block from Murray.Â
- Murray had five blocks in the second set and Delaware hit .306 as a team.
- Four-straight points from LA Tech gave the Bulldogs an 18-11 lead.Â
- LA Tech extended the lead to 22-14. Delaware scored six of the next eight points to cut the lead to 24-20, but LA Tech was able to force a fourth set.Â
- Gillens had five kills in the set and Nguyen had five digs.Â
- Delaware never trailed in the fourth set, immediately going ahead 5-0 and then scoring three-straight points to take a 9-6 lead.Â
- LA Tech cut the Delaware lead to one on four separate occasions, but a 4-0 run highlighted by two kills from Gillens put the Blue Hens ahead 21-15. Delaware then ended the game on a 4-0 run to secure the win.Â
- Gillens had six kills in the set.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware's win capped off a 2-0 weekend. The Blue Hens improved to 7-1 all-time under Lambert in the first road conference weekend of the season, with the only loss coming in 2023 against Towson.Â
- Gillens has at least 14 kills in five of her last six matches.Â
- Hughes' 10 kills were a season-high.Â
- Murray recorded five blocks for the second-straight match and sixth time this season.Â
- Yancey had at least 10 digs in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.Â
- Lyssy has recorded a double-double in three of her six career games she has played in. This was the first time in her career she did so in back-to-back matches.
- The last time Delaware had two freshmen record at least 10 digs in the same match before this weekend was Savannah Seemans (24) and Lily Rogers (21) against Temple on Feb. 26, 2021.Â
- The last time Delaware had two freshmen record at least 10 digs in two consecutive matches was Maddie Judge and Courtnie Roberts on Sept. 21 and Sept. 23, 2017 against William & Mary and Elon.Â
- Lyssy is the first Delaware freshman to record a double-double in two consecutive games since Ezgi Basaranlar on Sept. 13, 2019 against Incarnate Word and Niagara.Â
- Nguyen has recorded at least 10 digs in five-straight matches.Â
- Delaware improved to 22-7 under Kambert in the month of October and 19-2 over the last three seasons.Â
