Four Hens Score in Double Figures as Women’s Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to Old Dominion in OT

NORFOLK, Va. – Four Fightin' Blue Hens scored in double figures as the University of Delaware women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to Old Dominion, 73-66, Wednesday night at Chartway Arena. The Hens fall to 1-2, while the Monarchs rise to 2-1.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware shot nearly 45-percent from the floor in the opening half, while holding ODU to 21.2 percent from the floor.
- UD shot 50-percent from beyond the arc in the contest, making five of its 10 attempts.
- Ande'a Cherisier led the team with 15 points while pulling down seven boards, her 34th-career game of 10 or more points.
- Trinity Vance notched 13 points on 5-of-8 from the floor and 2-for-3 from three.
- Lay Fantroy tallied 11 points and a team-high nine boards to go with five steals. It marked her ninth-straight game with 10 or more points, while she has recorded at least eight points and eight rebounds in all three games this season..
- Safi Kolliegbo scored 11 points with five rebounds and three steals. It was her 42nd-career game in double figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware went up 11-0, making five of its first eight shots before the Monarchs registered a point. Cherisier recorded six of those points in her return after playing just six minutes in the season-opener against Bloomsburg. The Blue Hen defense held ODU to one of their first 15 while shooting 50% in the first frame. UD took a 15-9 lead into the second quarter, holding Old Dominion scoreless for nearly the final four minutes of the frame.
- The Blue & Gold continued its strong defense holding the Monarchs under 10 total points until 2:30 into the second quarter. ODU finally found its scoring touch, going on a 6-0 run in 1:47 heading into the second stanza's media stoppage with 5:43 left in the half. Delaware took a 34-26 lead into the halftime locker room.
- After leading for the first 23:09 of the contest, Delaware fell behind for the first time, 39-38, with 6:51 to go in the third. ODU scored nine unanswered in 2:01 to take a 42-38 lead with 5:22 left in the third quarter. The run rose to 13-0 for the Monarchs while UD went without a point for 4:03. ODU outscored the Hens 27-14 in the third, taking a 53-48 advantage into the fourth frame.
- At the fourth quarter media timeout, the Hens trailed 62-56 with 4:20 to go in regulation. UD went on a 8-0 run over 1:38 to retake the lead 64-62 with 2:19 to go, thanks to six clutch points from Vance. Delaware held ODU without a point for 4:31, leaving a two-point lead for the Hens with 38 ticks left. ODU tied the game at 64 with 14 seconds, leaving a 64-64 game heading into overtime.
- The Monarchs led 69-64 with 2:01 to go in the first overtime period. Cherisier made the first bucket of OT for the Hens with 1:44 to play, making it 69-66 in favor of the home team. ODU shut the door and held on for a 73-66 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Kailah Correa made her first-career start.
- This was the first overtime game for the Hens since February 9, 2025, when they downed Hofstra using two extra periods.
- Fantroy's five steals are the most for a Blue Hen since Nakiyah Mays-Prince swiped the ball six times against William & Mary on January 19, 2024.
