Fantroy Hauls in 20-Rebound Double-Double as Women’s Basketball Downs American, 68-57

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Lay Fantroy recorded a 20-rebound double-double as the University of Delaware women's basketball team defeated American, 68-57, Monday night at Bender Arena. The Fightin' Blue Hens improved to 2-2, while the Eagles fell to 1-2.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware outrebounded American 43-29, including 18-7 on the offensive glass.
- UD led for 34:14 of the game, equating to 85.6-percent of the contest
- Fantroy collected her seventh-career double-double and her second since arriving in Newark. The junior shot 7-of-14, recording 16 points while pulling down 20 rebounds. The 20 boards are the most by a Hen under head coach Sarah Jenkins and is tied for fifth-most in school history. The 20 caroms are the most collected by a Blue Hen since Nicole Enabosi had 20 on December 22, 2017 vs. Loyola (Md.).
- Kailah Correa scored a team-high 18 points in the contest, reaching the 10-point threshold for the third time this season.
- Ande'a Cherisier scored 15 points, marking the 35th time in her career that she has done so. She also dished out a team-high four assists and grabbed seven rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delaware led 11-5 halfway through the first quarter, behind a pair of four-point efforts from Correa and Fantroy. The lead grew to as high as 11 for the Hens in the frame, leaving a 21-12 lead at the first quarter break.
- American opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run, bringing the UD lead down to two with 6:35 to go in the half. The Blue & Gold immediately went on a 5-0 stretch of its own, moving the score to 26-19 at the second quarter media stoppage with 4:58 left. The two teams went to the locker room knotted at 30.
- The first bucket of the second half gave Fantroy a double-double and the Hens a 32-30 advantage. AU scored seven-straight points in 1:32, taking a 42-38 lead with 6:24 left in the third. At the end of the third stanza, UD held a 53-47 advantage.
- With 4:43 left in regulation, the Hens led 61-57 during a back-and-forth final frame. UD held American scoreless for the final 5:14, leaving an 11-point win for the Hens.
GAME NOTES
- UD has scored first in each of the first four games of the season.
