Women’s Basketball Takes Down Loyola (Md.), 67-55

BALTIMORE – The University of Delaware women's basketball team took down Loyola (Md.), 67-55, Wednesday afternoon at Reitz Arena. The Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 3-2, while the Greyhounds drop to 1-7.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware shot 50-percent from the floor in the first half and 46.5 percent for the game.
- UD outrebounded the Greyhounds 32-26.
- Ande'a Cherisier led the way with a season-high 17 points on 4-of-5 shooting and 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. It was her 36th-career double digit scoring performance.
- Trinity Vance scored in double figures for the third-consecutive game, recording 14 points with two steals.
- Lay Fantroy neared a double-double, scoring 12 points with nine rebounds to mark her 41st-career double-digit performance.
- Kailah Correa scored 11 points, marking her fourth game of the season in double figures. She was 8-for-8 from the line, knocking down all eight in the fourth quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UD led 12-2 at the first quarter media stoppage behind a 7-0 run over 1:55. The first frame finished with a 17-12 advantage in favor of the Blue Hens.
- Loyola took its only lead of the contest at 18-17 one minute into the second quarter. The Hens went back in front heading into the second quarter media stoppage, leading 28-24 with 4:53 left in the half. The Blue & Gold took a 32-29 advantage into the locker room at the break.
- A Vance three in the corner led to a Loyola timeout with the Hens up 44-35 halfway through the third quarter. UD led 53-43 heading into the final stanza.
- Delaware held Loyola scoreless for the first 2:22 of the quarter while the lead grew to 12, its largest of the game at that point. The advantage for the Blue & Gold rose to as high as 15 as the Hens held on for the victory.
GAME NOTES
- UD has scored first in each of the first five games of the season.
- Ella Wanzer returned to the starting lineup after missing the first four games of the season, putting up six points. Wanzer appeared in her 100th-career game.
- Gianna Johnson played in her first-collegiate game after missing last season due to injury, notching two points and two rebounds in seven minutes of action.
